Edward D. Clark is an independent researcher, enterprise architect, and founder of Vibe Village who is developing the Collective-State Inference research program. His work examines how artificial intelligence systems might infer latent, emergent conditions of bounded collectives—such as engagement, cohesion, conflict, and alignment—from observable patterns of interaction.
The initial inspiration for CSI emerged during the conception and development of Vibe Village, a social-music platform centered on shared listening and collective participation. That work raised a broader research question: could an AI system understand not only individual users, but also meaningful conditions emerging within the collective itself?

Clark’s professional background spans enterprise architecture, multi-cloud strategy, distributed systems, healthcare technology, data platforms, observability, and AI-enabled solution design.
This experience informs CSI’s emphasis on explicit system boundaries, evidence provenance, uncertainty, validation, operational accountability, and responsible use.

Building the theoretical and empirical foundations of CSI.

Develop theory-aligned relational, temporal, participant-level, and contextual evidence with explicit composition logic.

Clark is developing CSI as a longer-term interdisciplinary research program spanning organizational theory, computational social science, multilevel research, network analysis, machine learning, and collective-aware artificial intelligence.
The program is intended to progress from theoretical specification to construct operationalization, empirical comparison, validation, and independent replication.
Authorship and institutional status
Independent and transparently founder-led.
As of July 2026, Clark is the sole author and contributor to the CSI framework, CSI Reference, and associated research materials. The program is independently developed and is not currently affiliated with or sponsored by a university, research institute, or commercial organization.
External scholarly feedback is acknowledged separately and does not imply authorship, endorsement, or formal affiliation.
Vibe Village and the CSI research program are separate initiatives. Vibe Village is part of the practical origin of the research question and serves as an illustrative domain; it does not currently constitute an implemented or empirically validated CSI system.
