Author and principal researcher
Edward D. Clark is the founder and principal researcher of the Collective-State Inference research program and the principal author and editor of the CSI Reference. His work combines enterprise architecture, artificial intelligence, organizational systems, and graduate business research.
Authorship responsibility remains with Edward D. Clark. Generative-AI tools may assist with drafting, editing, coding, and research organization, but they are not treated as authors and do not replace source verification, conceptual judgment, or editorial accountability. The governing disclosure standard is documented in the Editorial and Citation Policy.
Purpose and scope
The program investigates how AI systems can infer and responsibly reason about collective-level conditions such as engagement, cohesion, conflict, and alignment from observable interaction patterns. It focuses on the full inferential chain: collective boundaries, construct definition, emergence, composition, evidence, validation, uncertainty, awareness, system design, and governance.
The CSI Reference is the living conceptual documentation layer. It does not replace peer-reviewed papers. Instead, it provides stable, accessible articles whose definitions, evidence status, citations, and version histories can be inspected independently.
Research and publication pathway
- Theoretical foundation: define CSI, its construct boundaries, and its relationship to established multilevel, emergence, computational, and human–AI scholarship.
- Operationalization: specify measurable indicators, composition models, uncertainty representations, and collective-level validation strategies.
- Empirical evaluation: compare CSI models against simpler aggregate and context-free baselines across bounded collectives and time.
- System research: evaluate explanation, projection, governance, human oversight, and appropriate use in collective-aware AI systems.
Manuscript, review, preprint, empirical-study, and archival-release links will be added when they become publicly available. Changes resulting from peer review or empirical evidence will be recorded rather than silently incorporated.
Current scholarly status
The CSI construct system and the articles in Edition 0.1 are foundational research drafts. The program’s current theoretical work is unpublished and in journal peer review; it has not been accepted, and CSI has not yet completed empirical validation. Proposed CSI contributions are distinguished from inherited scholarship throughout the living Reference.
Funding, interests, and institutional status
The CSI Reference is currently an independently maintained research resource. No external sponsor, commercial vendor, employer, or academic institution has been represented as endorsing the construct or the claims on this site. Material funding, institutional affiliations, or conflicts of interest relevant to future publications will be disclosed with the affected work.
